Getting Started in Online Teaching: for Faculty
Official discussion and requests about developing or teaching courses online, should begin at the departmental level.
If you wish to have a casual discussion or ask general questions about online teaching many resources are available:
- Current Online Instructors (contact Virtual Campus Center for contact information)
- Instructional Development Services
- SUNY Online Programs
- SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric (OSCQR)
Policies and procedures are in place for the proposal of new SUNY online or hybrid courses. Please contact the Virtual Campus Center via email or call (585) 292-3440 for further information.
Once a new course has been approved for development by the Virtual Campus office, faculty will need to complete Brightspace training to assist them with the pedagogy and technology required to develop and present an online course. Additionally faculty will meet regularly with their assigned ID (Instructional Designer) to develop their course.
In cases where a “new to online teaching” faculty member is assigned an existing course, they will follow the same training program as for a new course, i.e. attending training to assist them with the pedagogy and technology required to develop and present an online course, as well as meeting regularly with their assigned ID (Instructional Designer) to develop/revise their course.
